19 Tips for the Best Copywriting
A collection of copywriting examples from around the web.
Hi, I’m Ben Watkins 👋 Thanks for joining La Vie Ben Rose. Every week, I unravel copywriting questions, examples, and conversion tactics from the most recognized brands. I also look at online writing trends and creative ways to solve confusing problems.
Happy Saturday!
This week I put together a collection of my favorite copywriting examples.
I also launched my second course - Foundational Freelancing for $17.
P.S. My wife and I welcomed baby No. 5 (a girl!) into the family. Four boys and one girl. Life couldn’t be more exciting.
Onward and forward!
1.
Conversational copywriting feels like you’re talking to the reader, not at the reader.
It feels like a friend is talking to you like they know you.
2.
Don’t sell the product. Sell the details.
People don’t know what simple means. Spell it out for them.
3.
Brevity is the soul of wit (and copywriting)
Take out as many words as possible.
4.
Structure guides the reader.
It breaks ideas into sections and sentences. It makes it easier to consume your information.
5.
People remember stories.
Give yourself a name. Give yourself a mission. Talk about what you do every day.
6.
Ditch the formal words and be playful.
Parenthesis add informal thoughts to a conversation.
7.
Paint a picture in their mind.
Don’t tell customers they get to have cold coffee. Tell them what it’s like. Sell the dream outcome.
8.
Write to one reader.
Call out your audience if your readers don’t know who your product is for.
9.
A clear line is more important than a clever line.
Say what it is without overcomplicating it. Tell the customer what they are getting from your product.
10.
Never underestimate the power of rhyme to speak to customers.
When done effectively, a rhyme can be more memorable.
11.
Anaphora is a rhetorical device designed to create rhythm.
It’s also effective for creating rhythm in your copywriting
12.
Don’t sell the product, sell the outcome.
Don’t sell Legos, sell the accomplishment of a proud child.
13.
Give your brand some personality.
Sound like an actual person behind the brand.
14.
Tell the reader what specific action you want them to take in your call to action.
Make it clear what the next step is.
15.
Don’t hide your flaws.
The Praftfall Effect: people like you more when you show your flaws.
16.
Make a simple (specific) promise to the reader.
You can do that by teasing the value proposition in the headline.
17.
Twist a familiar line.
You’re making it familiar to the reader.
18.
Always make it about the reader by adding “you” words.
It makes the reader feel important and like you’re talking to them.
19.
Make the social proof feel real.
The more real it is, the more genuine it comes across.
