Scarcity, Affinity, and Nostalgia Bias In Pumpkin Spice Lattes
Pumpkin spice latte season is upon us, so I created some fun ads around them that show different biases.
“Stop reading this and get in line” - Scarcity bias: show the urgency.
“How was your summer?” - Nostalgia bias: A reflection of the past and looking forward to fall.
“What life looks like after you drop your kids off at school” - Affinity bias: you’re being relatable to an audience
“Ya know these are limited, right?” - Scarcity bias
Nostalgia Bias Taps Into Your Emotions
This ad below is another example of the Nostalgia bias. It looks what it was like to be a child.
Better yet, it does a great of telling stories to capture that nostalgia instead of just “telling” you something.
Consistency Bias Shows Why You’re Different
Your marketing and copywriting needs an enemy. It needs conflict.
Your audience is always looking for a reason to leave because there are a million things distracting them.
This ad leverages consistency bias. It shows what they’ve changed and why they are the best.
Confirmation Bias Reinforces Somone’s Belief
Confirmation bias is when you see something new that confirms your belief.
If people hate health insurance, reading a sign like the one below only reinforces that belief.
More importantly, it appeals to them because they agree with it. James Clear once said that the best way to change someone’s mind is to become friends with them. Make them a part of your tribe.
I couldn’t agree more with that.
